Hi I’m Wendy! After teaching for a few years, I changed direction (like a zig zag!) and became an Educational Psychologist. I did my internship in 2015 and have been practicing as a fully registered Ed Psych since 2016. Since then I have worked in the education, disability and complex needs sectors, in schools, homes and now in my rooms in Upper Hutt.
I am experienced working with neurodivergent people, and am (late-diagnosed) neurodivergent myself. I enjoy working with children, young people and adults who experience anxiety and phobias, and with people who are exploring what autism or adhd means for them after being diagnosed.
My neurotype means I’m also very thorough when I do assessments for SLD, ADHD and autism!
My approach is evidence-based and practical (it needs to work for your situation, which you are the expert of!). I take a holistic, or ecological approach, where the child/person is seen as part of the systems they operate in, rather than the problem being within the child/person. I enjoy helping people to adjust their approach to be more suited to needs, so that positive progress can be made. I am neuro-affirming in my approach.
I use a combination of my knowledge and your knowledge to come up with a way forward.
Nā tō rourou, nā taku rourou ka ora ai te iwi.
In my spare time, I enjoy yoga, community choir, doing sassy cross-stitch and walking through our beautiful nature in the Hutt Valley.
I look forward to hearing from you.
